10 Social Media Content Ideas for January 2019

Finding social media content every day in your business can be hard work. So we have pulled together 10 content ideas you can use, based on the trending days in January! It's time to get creative and kick of the year with a strong content plan in place.

1.     1st January - New Year’s Day

A New Year and new beginning for you, your business and your customers. The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on the year gone by and look forward to the creation of a successful and prosperous year ahead.

Are you planning to do something new with your business this year? Do you have new offerings to share with your customers or community? Inspire them by sharing your vision for the year and how they can be a part of it.

2.     1st January - Copyright Law Day

Today is the day to think about the content you are sharing and making sure that you have the right to share it. One of our community members, Andrea Smith from My Creative Biz, recently wrote an article on this for us. Check out where the law lies on social media sharing and which content you can use! You can read the article here.

3.     1st January - Global Family Day

A day that has appeared somewhat spontaneously and recognised by many who simply want to spend one day with their family. The idea of family has become quite organic and with the removal of borders through increased travel options and of course, social media, your ‘family’ might include people who give you a smile with your morning breakfast order, those that nurture your children or care for your elders or maybe even the family at the local post office.

Which family members support your business directly or indirectly? Perhaps they look after things on the home front when you have to invest those extra hours to make things work? Today is the day to give a shout out to them and say thanks for their support of your business.

4.     2nd January – Motivation and Inspiration Day

Just after the party season ends, this is the perfect day to inspire your communities to set goals for the year. Are you a personal trainer? Then it’s a no brainer for you. But this day can be used by any business to motivate and inspire your customers to take action.

This day was passed in Congress in the US after the tragic events of 9/11 and aims to remind people that despite what is happening around them, there are positive things to focus on.

Find an inspirational quote that motivates you or one that relates directly to the products and services you provide.

5.     3rd January - Festival of Sleep

After the many holiday feasts and all-night NYE celebrations, don’t you deserve a sleep in or at least time to recharge those batteries before the future calls you? This holiday is your permission to do just that! Do you close your business at this time to let your staff recharge their batteries?

Share a post of your team in their pyjamas!

6.     4th January – Trivia Day

This is a great day to share a quirky fact or piece of information that relates to your business. Perhaps it is how many hours it takes to make your products, or maybe how many widgets you make every year. Maybe it is something about how your industry got started. Frame it as a question and see who can guess the right answer.

Have some fun with this one and use it as a way to engage your audience!

7.     8th January - World Literary Day

Today is the day to share your favourite book that will add value to and/or inspire your customers and community. Which book could you share that will show that you stay across the latest trends and issues or at least know what is going on in your industry or business type.

8.     11th January - International Thank You Day

What a great initiative to encourage everyone to think about what they can say ‘Thank You’ for. We often spend so much time on the ‘business as usual’, we can take for granted the great job our staff do and the role that our customers play in keeping our business alive!

What can you thank your staff for on this day? Inspire a wave of thankfulness in your workplace by posting a few descriptive Thank you messages to let your staff know you appreciate their hard work. What about your suppliers? The couriers, the folk that delivers your stationery supplies, the milk for the office kitchen? Think about who you might thank on this day of gratitude!

9.     18th January - Winnie the Pooh Day

Winnie the Pooh is a much-loved fictional character created in 1926 by A.A. Milne and this day commemorates Milne’s birthday (1882). Winnie the Pooh is probably most remembered for his love of honey and his rag tag team of friends who have each other’s back no matter what sort of strange adventure they embark on.

What a great reason to have a bit of fun! Ask people to share their favourite Winnie the Pooh image or perhaps a favourite quote!

We like this one:
“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.”

10.     21st January - Martin Luther King Day

Today honours an iconic American leader. Born in 1929, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards equal rights for African-Americans in 1964 and assassinated in 1968. He was the youngest person to win the prize and this day is considered by a number of people as a day to serve your community. There are many inspiring quotes to be shared today!
